Bob's Phone Takes a Dive
[How do feel about warranties now?]
Nope, it's not supposed to come apart like that. Forgot to zip the pocket on my jacket before taking off on my Harley. It took a tumble on the boulevard, and then was run over. And over. And over.
Doing the math in the Verizon store, a warranty was essentially the same as the "New-Every-Two" deal. The sum of the 24-months of insurance was the same as paying to replace a broken, lost, or stolen phone. So, I said "no, thanks", and my life continued as normal.
As it turns out, I've got about 7 months to go before I can get a new phone - and saved the $50.00 deductible, plus the cost of insurance, by re-activating Terri's old phone.
There was still a bit of a price to pay since both kids have replaced lost and broken phones following lectures about the value of money, the need to be responsible, and so on, and so forth.
To answer the subtitle - the warranty against loss, damage, or theft seem nice, but it's a lot cheaper to save an old phone - just in case. And, Verizon lets you activate replacement devices over the internet. Very nice, indeed.
