The New Patio!
- Sand: Tons...
- Road Base: Lots more than the sand, including 17,400 lbs placed in a single weekend!
- Patio Bricks: Ooooh lots, and lots of bricks.
- So many that we devised a method of delivering entire pallets (at least 6) to the house.
- Each pallet weighs nearly two tons (3840 lbs, plus the pallet) and contains 480 bricks.
Special thanks to:
- Jim Schubin for helping get the thing started.
- Jim Taylor for helping get the thing done.
- Isabel, Joey, and Henry for stopping by and reminding us that pickup trucks and playground sand are all you really need.
- All Rental - fast, fast, fast service and best prices in town
- Pioneer Sand and Gravel
- Our local Home Depot - with a big shout-out for the military discount weekend!
The patio is laid in a herringbone pattern of red bricks within a 6-foot grid of soldiered dark grey bricks.
A bit of trivia: each square of the pattern 98 red bricks, of which 7 had to be halved to accomodate the herringbone pattern.

The patio now provides a place to store the garbage cans. The retaining wall will hold back the hill for the aspen grove. The bird bath will be surrounded by some sort of maintenance-free landscaping material.

Sabre! Sit!

Good Girl! The piping is a temporary protective measure during the monsoon season.

A nice patio with plenty of room for entertaining!
What's next?
We'll be working our way down the hill, away from the house. The roses are in, but won't be complete until the retaining wall is finished. Sod going in, and sprinklers getting replaced, too. The drainage piping for the roof downspout will take a turn along the house and then head down the hill. Finally, a terraced garden at the end of lot!
