South Park Stars
[×]
INSTRUCTIONS:
This is a one-minute exposure looking west on the night of 7 November 2009. It was a crystal clear moonless night (moon rose late). I used 200 ASA Kodak film
and my sturdy tripod. The stars on the left side of the picture are blurred more than those on the left. Hint: the photo was taken facing
west (azimuth apporoximately 270 degrees) at an elevation of approximately 40 degrees.
To zoom around the star field, you'll need to be using Internet Explorer (sorry, I'm still working on the cross-browser code for Mozilla users). Slowly move the cursor over the star field
and the little blue box will follow. The magnifier in the upper-right corner should track the full-resolution contents of little blue box.
This was part of Doug's Astronomy class assignment to view the heavens from a spot with minimal
light pollution. That's pretty much the definition of
our place in South Park.
